lyrics

Lying awake surrounded by her second guesses
Counting her odds before at last she acquiesces
Her family slumbers below
She is scared of what they know

There in the dark she gathers up her few possessions
Her diary riddled with her sins and her transgressions
Some food, some cloth, some string
Is all that she can bring

And slowly but surely,
silently slipping down the stairs
she makes it to the door

And she takes a final look
back at all that she's
about to leave before
She slips away from her shattered haven to the wind's infernal roar, oh

The silent moon and the ever voiceless stars observe her flight
And trace her form in shallow light

Into the woods she treads, so aimless and uncertain
Hiding herself behind an elemental curtain
The trees will be her shield
And keep her well-concealed

But in her haste to flee she loses her direction
The heat of the moment overcomes her recollection
The pathways turn and twist
But still the girl persists

A tangle of branches suddenly snares her ankle and it starts to pull her down
There's a rush of pain as her captive ankle snaps and as she hits the ground
She begins to realize she is stranded where she likely won't be found, oh

She tried to stand, but her leg gives out and she begins to cry
But only wind and rain reply

The callous moon and the apathetic stars observe her plight
But do not move to ease her fright
So she waits in terror through a sleepless night
Where hope and vision both are slight

Finally dawn arrives and grants her morning's rays
And standing above her in the red and orange haze
Is a figure, fair and sleek
Who then begins to speak...
