Lurking in the dark
Looking for the perfect mark
You think you've found the one
So grip the handle of your gun
and move to block your target's way
Hide your shaking hands
As you tell him your demands
He doesn't seem to care
He merely grits his teeth and stands there
Show him your pistol to persuade

But suddenly he leaps at you, a blur of motion, unexpectedly
Your muscles tense
Your fingers twitch
Your pistol screams
So run away, before they find the scene, oh no
There's never any safety for a thief

Sitting in your home
Shivering and all alone
Your eyes upon the door
Waiting for the cops to come for
You, and take it all away
Yet they never do
The only thing that visits you is
Solitary blame
You didn't even know his name
But now, you've put him in his grave

And sometimes in the shadows you could swear you see him
Staring silently
His face is grave
And his eyes appear to gleam
